Sifting is a passage from one state to another. Time and nature on their own affect a lively material such as copper.  Riddle refers both to riddling with holes and to the mystery – why does the water evaporate rather than dribble through? See video

Riddle and Sieve are early works (below) that present dilemnas that I am fascinated to see play out on their own without my continued intervention. I set up a physical conundrum but its resolution is beyond my control. I watch Sieve which has hung in my studio for years and still wait for the salt to eat through the copper and complete the colander.
